| This digital photo was taken very close to sunset one evening during a visit to the light house. My wife and I were racing to get to the large granite promontory before sunset, hoping there would be enough light to ensure the photos of this awesome Maine light house would turn out OK. The setting for this light house is as impressive as any. It sits atop a large granite cliff that drops off almost immediately from the light house grounds. The view of the cold ocean waters is incredible. You can see miles and miles of ocean waters and strong currents. In order to get a good vantage point of the light house, you must climb down below on the large pink granite rocks. The wonderful orange and pink hues of the sunset light adds a richness to the already beautiful pink granite cliffs. The fresh air coming off of the oxygen rich ocean waters smells wonderful. Eagles fly overhead and below cormorants float on the ocean waters. Occasionally, seals will appear in the water just beyond the granite cliffs. A visit to this wonderful location makes a Maine vacation memorable for a lifetime. |
