| OK, so East Quoddy Head Light House is not in Maine, heck it's not even in the United States. This wonderful light house is on Campobello Island in New Brunswick, Canada. But doesn't this light house look like it belongs in Maine? And the people of Lubec, Maine and Campobello Island are very close and friendly even though they live in different countries. The island and Lubec are linked by the Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) Memorial Bridge. And it is very easy to get from one side to the other, although security restrictions have been added because of world events over the past couple of years. But this light house is spectacular. This digital photo was taken from a clearing at the end of a path just left of the parking area. Since the coasts of Maine and Campobello Island look very similar, you would not question if this scene is in Maine unless you are familiar with the region. I love the setting of this light house. While sitting at the foot of the lighthouse, I have seen schools of porpoises and whales and watched eagles fly overhead. A trip to Campobello Island should be part of any northern Maine coastal vacation. |
