Welcome to Maine Light Houses, a website dedicated to sharing
the beauty of the state of Maine, especially Maine light houses, via
a collection of digital photos. The Maine light houses featured in
this collection were built in the most spectacular settings
imaginable, as offered only by the Northeast Atlantic coast. These
beautiful sentinels were built to protect those who travel by sea
along the state's rocky coast. The rugged coast of this region is
both beautiful and dangerous, requiring many light houses in order
to protect those who travel by sea from sailing into its long, jagged
granite fingers. From York to Lubec, each of the Maine light
houses is uniquely beautiful. There are Maine light houses for
every scenic preference. One of our favorite Maine light houses is
Bass Harbor Head, where the pastel colors of the setting sun
electrify the pink granite ledges. If you prefer a bold, austere
setting, we recommend one of two Maine light houses; Portland
Head Light House or Lubec's West Quoddy Head Light House. For
a more serene setting, visit Rockland's Breakwater Light House at
sunset on a calm, clear summer evening. A foggy day is ideal for
visiting northern Maine light houses in the Lubec region, such as
the Lubec Channel Light House, Mulholland Light House, or East
Quoddy Head Light House. Each of the Maine Light houses
featured on this website offers its own breathtaking scenery and
captures the hearts of Maine light house enthusiasts around the
